This study, “LOCAL PERSPECTIVES ON COMMUNITY-DRIVEN MARINE DEBRIS MANAGEMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM IN THE ANDAMAN ISLANDS, THAILAND,” was led by Associate Professor Dr. Chanisada Choosuk, Dr. Prawit Khunnikom, and colleagues.

This study is qualitative research employing a multiple case studies methodology, conducted across two areas in the Andaman Islands, Thailand. It was found that internal perspectives, including beliefs and gender roles, external perspectives, stemming from community cooperation and responsibility, and sustainability in resource utilization, are crucial for the development of effective long-term waste management policies and plans.

This research was a collaboration between the Faculty of Public Health and Allied Health Sciences, Praboromarajchanok Institute, through Sirindhorn College of Public Health, Trang Province; the Faculty of Environmental Management and Faculty of Management Sciences, Prince of Songkla University; the Faculty of Science and Technology, Hatyai University; and Krabi Creation Co., Ltd. The research was funded by the Coca-Cola Foundation, Thailand.

The research findings highlight the importance of understanding perspectives on waste management, particularly internal perspectives. This understanding is vital for developing effective long-term waste management policies and plans that can contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.
